Shaping Leaders

Understanding the qualities of how to lead is an important part of high school. Wolcott creates opportunities for students to step into leadership positions through student government and other opportunities.

Leadership Team

Students meet with their Leadership Team multiple times each week, from freshman through senior year, creating continuity, connection, and shared purpose. Each team is grade-level specific and remains together all four years, allowing relationships and collaboration to deepen over time. The curriculum—carefully designed across grade levels—guides students through experiences that build group dynamics, strengthen individual voice, and shape school culture. Rooted in Wolcott’s mission, Leadership Teams foster small, diverse, and close-knit communities where students develop socially, emotionally, and academically while growing as confident, compassionate leaders.

Student Government

Officials to Student Government are elected by the student body and act as a recommending body to the school and as a communications link among the students, the faculty, and the administration. As the entire body has a voice in student affairs, open meetings and forums are held so that all students may offer ideas, opinions, and suggestions. Though officers are elected to formally serve in Student Government, every student is considered a member, and frequent opportunities are made available for all to participate.

Leadership Clubs

Academic and Leadership clubs encourage and celebrate academic and extra-curricular achievement. Included in this category of club offerings are the National Honor Society, Wolcott Student Ambassadors, and Student Council Officers. All of these clubs require a commitment to scholarship, leadership, service, and community. Wolcott Ambassadors and Learning Buddies encourage students to build relationships within the broader communities of Chicago. These groups also allow students the opportunity to utilize their learning differences in a positive and empowering manner that educates others through volunteer tutoring, engaging with community leaders, hosting business professionals, and assisting the admissions department.

Career Week

Preparing for College, Preparing for Life. Career Week is a fundamental part of the Wolcott experience and introduces our students to experts across many professions. Tapping into Chicago’s community and business leaders, a week of programming is designed to expose students to a broad range of professions and businesses.
