Before arriving at Wolcott Janet spent 10 years directing and 6 years co-directing the Spanish language program at University of Chicago, where she taught all levels of Spanish language as well as a graduate seminar on language pedagogy. Prior to that she taught multiple levels of Spanish and French as a graduate student at Berkeley while pursuing her doctorate. Her dissertation examined the construction of humor in Spanish, Argentine and French comic strips from a sociolinguistic and pragmatic perspective. Before graduate school Janet taught Spanish and French at an independent school in New York City, and ESL to adults in Madrid, Spain. She was a contributing author to the elementary college textbook ¡Con brío! and is currently working on an advanced-level Spanish textbook. Janet is excited to enter a new phase of her career at Wolcott, where she can focus exclusively on her first love: teaching! In her free time Janet enjoys singing soul, jazz and blues and playing the flute.
