Ryan Bowns-Kamphuis

Robotics Co-Teacher & Adjunct Instructor

BS, Illinois Institute of Technology
MS, Illinois Institute of Technology

Ryan grew up just outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota and has had a love for robotics ever since his parents gave him his first LEGO Mindstorms set when he was in elementary school. Ever since then, he has been passionate about exploring the STEM fields and sharing those fields with others. This passion empowered him to help found a FIRST® Robotics Competition team at his high school, earn both a Bachelor of Science in Physics Education degree and Master of Science Education degree from Illinois Institute of Technology, mentor several FIRST Robotics Competition and FIRST Tech Challenge teams, and volunteer as a leader within Illinois’ FIRST programs for over ten years.

Ryan comes to Wolcott College Prep after teaching physics and robotics at Benito Juarez Community Academy in Chicago for seven years. He strives to be an educator who centers student voice and needs in his instruction while providing ample opportunities for students to explore real-world phenomena through hands-on experiences.

While not teaching, Ryan can be found volunteering at robotics events, cooking new recipes, playing board games with friends, and getting excited by the newest developments in the world of science and technology.”
